We are looking for a Trainee or Qualified Dental Nurse to support
the dental team in delivering high-quality patient care within a clinical setting.
Responsibilities include assisting the dentist during procedures, preparing and sterilising instruments, maintaining accurate patient records, and ensuring the surgery is clean and compliant with health and safety regulations.
A trainee dental nurse is expected to work towards a recognised qualification while gaining practical experience.
Customer service
- Demonstrates good telephone and face to face communications with patients and colleagues, interacts with patients to a high standard.
- Listens to the patient without interrupting, good tone to voice, friendly and professional attitude, good eye contact, shows empathy, professional body language.
- Ensure on patient leaving the treatment room they have an understanding of treatments/plan.
- Demonstrates care and welfare of all patients.
Clinical duties
- Ensure all clinical areas and all equipment and instruments clean, tidy and sterile according to the Practices health and safety, infection control procedures and manufacturers instructions.
- Ensure all equipment and machinery used in accordance with manufacturers recommendations, ensuring all maintained regularly and in good working order.
- Demonstrates professional chairside assistance, ensuring the correct equipment is available.
- Ensure all substances handled in accordance with health and safety policies.
- Ensure familiar and complies with all health and safety rules and guidance, including PPE, COSHH, mercury handling, infection control, waste disposal.
- Ensure all equipment is stored in the correct place.
- Ensure all equipment is accounted for at the end of each treatment/day.
- Develop and file radiographs as directed.
- Ensure adequate stocks of materials and other items within the surgery at all times.
- Ensure all Decon undertaken on a daily basis, in line with Hardhorn Dental Practice Standards.
Administration duties.
- Ensure accurately complete patient clinical records as directed.
- Ensure initial patient check in with PR form signed by patient and completed correctly.
- Demonstrate completion of laboratory request forms, keep records of work sent, received and fitted.
- Ensure computer/written records are accurately maintained and securely stored.
- Demonstrate and ensure logbooks are correctly filled out daily and signed and checked by Practice Manager weekly.
- Liaise with reception to ensure smooth patient communications and transfer of records.
- Liaise with Head Nurse/Practice Manager when ordering new stock supplies when required.
Other duties
- To undertake Reception duties to Hardhorn Dental practice Receptionist Standards.
- Ensure knowledge and understanding of all the practice products, enabling a confident marketing to patients.
- To undergo training as may be required and identified to develop skills and abilities.
- Attend refresher and update training for medical emergencies and CPR.
- Attend and participate in Practice team meetings.
- Demonstrate Hardhorn Dental Practice Standards of behaviour.
- Ensure reception area, waiting room. Kitchen and toilets are clean and tidy and have appropriate cleansing materials.
Where it leads
The successful candidate will work towards achieving a Level 3 qualification in dental nursing whilst gaining valuable experience in a dental practice.
Upon completion of the Level 3 qualification, you will be an experienced and qualified dental nurse, and as such, you can continue building up skills that will always be in-demand. You could progress to acquire specialist qualifications in areas such as sedation, dental radiography, and oral health education.
You may take on more responsibilities as a trainer for other dental nurses or move into a management role within your dental practice. You might decide to apply for a course to qualify as a dental hygienist or therapist.
