Working alongside experienced arborists, the apprentice will gain practical experience in ground based and, when ready and appropriately trained, aerial tree-work operations. No two days are exactly the same, but duties will include:

  • Assisting with safe site set up, risk controls, exclusion zones and job tidy up
  • Learning to use, inspect and care for arboricultural tools, PPE, equipment and plant under supervision
  • Supporting ground operations, including handling brash, assisting the team, feeding the chipper when trained and maintaining an organised work area
  • Developing an understanding of trees, pruning, wildlife considerations and the standards expected in professional tree care
  • Completing apprenticeship learning alongside practical on the job training and regular support from the Broadleaf team
  • Progressing towards climbing and aerial tree work skills when competence, training and safety requirements have been met

Where it leads

On successful completion of the apprenticeship, the successful candidate may have the opportunity to progress into a permanent Arborist role with Broadleaf Midlands Tree Care. With continued safe working, practical competence, reliability and successful completion of relevant training, there may be opportunities to develop towards Senior Arborist/Lead Climber and, in time, Team Leader roles. Progression will depend on performance, business need and available opportunities.

professional tree surgery, hedge maintenance, stump removal,
tree planting and commercial tree care services across
Leicestershire and the wider East Midlands.

Things to consider

This is a practical, outdoor role based from our unit in Shepshed, with travel to domestic and commercial work sites across Leicestershire and the East Midlands in company vehicles. The work involves early starts, working in varied weather conditions, manual handling, using PPE and working around machinery and equipment. Safety is central to everything we do, so the successful applicant must be willing to follow training, safe systems of work and instructions from the team leader. The role is 37.5 paid hours per week, Monday to Friday, with a one-hour unpaid lunch break each day.
