To provide efficient administrative and clerical support to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the GP surgery, supporting clinical staff and delivering high-quality service to patients. Managing patient referrals and workflow from GPs. To support chronic disease recall.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Services:

  • Handle incoming calls, emails, and online queries from patients and other members of the surgery.
  • Book, amend, and cancel appointments using clinical systems.

Administrative Duties:

  • Update and manage patient data in EMIS.
  • Process Referrals through ERS.
  • Ensure confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., UK GDPR).

Communication & Coordination:

  • Liaise with GPs, nurses, and external healthcare professionals.
  • Refer patient queries to appropriate clinical staff when needed.
  • Support recall systems (e.g., vaccinations, chronic disease reviews).

Your training

An apprenticeship includes regular training with the college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship is basically a starting point into office-based careers—it’s quite flexible, so your progression can go in a few different directions depending on what you’re interested in.
