Sport for Confidence is looking for passionate, enthusiastic and person-focused Apprentice Coaches to support the delivery of inclusive sport and physical activity sessions within our leisure centre sites.

This apprenticeship provides an exciting opportunity to gain practical coaching experience whilst working towards a nationally recognised qualification. Apprentice Coaches will work alongside experienced coaches and occupational therapists to support people with disabilities, long-term health conditions and those facing barriers to physical activity.

The role will involve supporting the planning, preparation and delivery of inclusive sessions including but not limited to multisport, dance, football, boccia, netball, cricket and others. Apprentice Coaches will help create welcoming and inclusive environments where participants feel valued, supported and empowered to engage in meaningful physical activity.

Day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the setup and delivery of sessions
  • Supporting participants during activities
  • Helping adapt activities to meet individual needs
  • Building positive relationships with participants and partners
  • Supporting session administration including registers and participation data
  • Participating in team meetings, training and reflective practice sessions
  • Learning about person-centred and inclusive coaching approaches
  • Working closely with coaches and occupational therapists to support participant wellbeing and development

Apprentices will receive ongoing mentoring, structured training and opportunities for continued professional development throughout the programme.

Successful apprentices may have the opportunity to progress into employed coaching roles within Sport for Confidence, subject to performance and organisational opportunities. The apprenticeship will also provide valuable experience and transferable skills that can support future careers in:

  • Community Coach roles
  • Inclusive Sport Coach positions
  • Specialist coaching pathways
  • Further coaching qualifications and CPD opportunities
  • Health and wellbeing or community development roles

Working alongside coaches, occupational therapists and community partners will provide apprentices with a unique understanding of how physical activity can be used to improve health, wellbeing and social outcomes, creating a strong foundation for a range of future career pathways.

Sport for Confidence (SFC), an Occupational Therapy led service using physical activity to promote empowerment, wellbeing and belonging.
