  • Working alongside the dentist, taking instructions from them
  • Maintaining good infection control procedures
  • Ensuring the cleanliness of surgery, equipment and instruments 
  • Dictate information from the dentist 
  • Arrange appointments, answer calls and input data
  • Ensure records are kept up to date and maintain confidentiality at all times

Your training

  • The Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Dental Nursing apprenticeship provides you with the qualifications and skills required to work within the field of a dental nurse 
  • This is an online training programme with weekly online teaching sessions 
  • The training schedule has yet to be agreed upon, further details will be made available at a later date
  • Once qualified, you can register as a dental nurse with the General Dental Council 

Where it leads

There is a wide range of opportunities available to enable registered dental nurses to extend their clinical duties and develop their knowledge and skills within particular areas of interest, for example:

  • Dental radiography
  • Oral health education
  • Further education in different healthcare fields
  • Progression onto University to become a dental hygienist/therapist
