  • Supporting manufacturing process development and continuous improvement
  • Assisting with production optimisation for efficiency and quality
  • Analysing data and supporting root cause investigations
  • Applying lean manufacturing and standard work
  • Supporting quality inspections and non-conformance investigations
  • Developing process documentation (SOPs, work instructions)
  • Supporting trials and introduction of new processes
  • Working on improvement projects (cycle time, scrap reduction)
  • Interpreting engineering drawings

Your training

Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship  

Training includes:

  • Day release at Sunderland College
  • Structured on-the-job training within AEM’s manufacturing and engineering teams
  • Practical experience applying engineering principles in a real production environment

You will develop skills in:

  • Process improvement and lean manufacturing
  • Root cause analysis and problem solving
  • Manufacturing systems and production control
  • Quality and continuous improvement methodologies

Where it leads

This apprenticeship is designed as a pathway into a process engineering career.

On successful completion, you can progress into:

  • Manufacturing / Process Technician
  • Junior Process Engineer
  • Continuous Improvement Engineer

Further development opportunities include:

  • Higher-level engineering qualifications
  • Degree apprenticeship or HNC/HND (supported by the business)
