 We are looking to employ an apprenticeship groom to join our friendly and experienced team, to provide excellent care for our livery and school horses.

The job will include all aspects of yard work;

  • Mucking out/ keeping yard tidy
  • Grooming/ picking out feet
  • Rugging and turning horses in and out of the fields 
  • Tacking  upand untacking the horses
  • Riding available for the right candidate
  • All general horse care 
  • Feeding/ filling haynets and water buckets 

Your training

You will be working towards your Level 2 Equine Groom apprenticeship.

You will also work towards Functional Skills qualifications in maths and/ or English at level 1 or 2 if required.

All training provided at the employers premises by the employer and Haddon Training.

Where it leads

Progression within Burley, either into the Level 3 Senior equine Groom apprenticeship or employment for the right candidate. Ongoing training towards BHS exams offered to employees.

Burley Lodge Equestrian Centre is a family run riding centre set in 180 acres of land in Shinfield, just south of Reading, Berkshire. We are a 'BHS Approved Centre' and are very proud to have gained the Highly Commended status from our inspection. Together, Bridget Hart and Jenny Plyer have over 45 years combined experience of teaching and running an equestrian centre to the highest of BHS standards. At Burley Lodge we are passionate about providing quality instruction alongside exceptional horse care. We offer riding lessons tailored to our customers requirements; from hacking to private and group lessons. All abilities are welcome at Burley Lodge, from children aged two to adult riders; casual riding to those wishing to gain professional qualifications.​​

Things to consider

We are looking for a candidate with excellent communication skills, good basic equine experience , a love for horses and working outdoors is a must! Possible accommodation is available onsite along with the possiblity of taking your own horse.
