Apprentices will undertake a wide variety of tasks while supervised by a competent operative in 4 key areas within trailer manufacturing.
Repair and Maintenance process:
- Chassis system Assembly & Installation
- Coach building
- Pre-Delivery Inspection
- Trailer repair and service
You will develop skills to enable you to:
- Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on HGVs and trailers
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults
- Complete MOT preparations and ensure vehicles meet DVSA standards
- Carry out safety checks in line with company and legal requirements
- Use diagnostic equipment to identify faults and apply effective solutions
- Maintain accurate service records, job cards, and compliance documentation
- Daily housekeeping duties
- Manual handing procedures
- Safe use and maintenance of Power, Air & Hand Tools
- Adhere to health & safety policies and maintain a clean, safe working environment
Your training
The Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship combines practical workplace training with structured off-the-job learning to develop the skills required to inspect, service, maintain, diagnose, and repair heavy vehicles and trailers. Apprentices receive ongoing support from a dedicated tutor through regular reviews, coaching, and progress tracking, while an experienced workplace mentor provides day-to-day guidance and hands-on training. This blended approach enables apprentices to build technical competence, gain a nationally recognised qualification, and become confident, skilled technicians capable of making a valuable contribution to the business.
