As an HSE Apprentice, you will work closely with multiple operational teams and contribute to a variety of important activities, such as:
- Supporting the development and promotion of a positive health and safety culture across departments including facilities management, stadium events, grounds operations and commercial teams. This will provide exposure to a wide range of operational environments and safety practices.
· Assisting with the delivery and development of inductions, safety briefings, and training materials for employees and contractors.
- Observing, supporting, and contributing to risk assessments, inspections, management system audits and routine safety walkarounds across the site.
- Assisting in the review and development of emergency preparedness procedures, including fire safety plans, and the safe management of hazardous substances.
- Collecting, analysing, and interpreting health and safety data to support reporting and performance monitoring.
- Promoting the value of strong health and safety practices by encouraging positive behaviours and constructively challenging unsafe attitudes or misconceptions.
- Actively collaborate with colleagues to contribute to the development and delivery of the current strategic, business and operational plans.
- Act as an ambassador for, and promote the best interests of the RFU, including the promotion of our culture and core values – This Rose Means Everyone: Put The Team First, Shape The Future, Respect Each Other.
- Undertake other duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the post and the needs of the organisation.
Your training
This apprenticeship is delivered fully online by University of Lincoln. Under the current training plan, there is no expectation for apprentices to travel to Lincoln for training.
Where it leads
On completion of the apprenticeship, the candidate will be well placed to progress into a Health, Safety and Environment Technician or similar HSE support role. The role will provide hands-on experience across facilities, events, grounds operations, venue security and commercial activities, building a strong foundation for a future career in health, safety and environmental management. Further development may include IOSH, NEBOSH or higher-level qualifications, supporting progression into roles such as HSE Coordinator, Safety Advisor or Environmental Advisor.
