Typical duties for a Level 2 Pharmacy Services Assistant Apprentice could include:

  • Supporting customers and patients at the pharmacy counter.
  • Receiving and processing prescriptions.
  • Preparing and assembling medicines under supervision.
  • Labelling and dispensing prescriptions accurately.
  • Ordering, receiving and storing medicines and pharmacy stock.
  • Checking stock levels and expiry dates.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and organised pharmacy environment.
  • Using pharmacy computer systems and maintaining accurate records.
  • Supporting the wider pharmacy team with day-to-day tasks.
  • Following pharmacy procedures, confidentiality requirements and health and safety guidance.
  • Developing knowledge of medicines and common health conditions.
  • Communicating professionally with patients, customers and healthcare professionals.

Your training

The apprentice will gain practical, on-the-job experience within the pharmacy while completing their Level 2 Pharmacy Services Assistant apprenticeship with Halesowen College. Training will include online learning, regular tutor/assessor support and dedicated off-the-job training to develop the knowledge and skills required for the role.

Where it leads

On successful completion of the Level 2 Pharmacy Services Assistant Apprenticeship, the apprentice can progress into a permanent Pharmacy Services Assistant role and continue developing their career within pharmacy. They may also have the opportunity to progress to a Level 3 Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship, subject to the relevant entry requirements.

The group is committed to providing accessible, friendly and professional pharmacy services to local communities. This apprenticeship offers the opportunity to gain experience across two of its Birmingham branches, GR Pharmacy on Hillwood Road and Aston Chemist on Shenley Lane, while developing valuable skills within a supportive pharmacy team.

Things to consider

This apprenticeship will be based across two pharmacy branches, both of which are part of the same employer, MSN Lunts. You will be based at GR Pharmacy on Mondays and Fridays, and at Aston Pharmacy on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. You must therefore be flexible and able to travel between both branches. Saturday working may also be required, depending on the needs of the business.
