The role provides hands-on training across a range of HGVs. Applicants must be able to start work at 5:00am each day from our Dartford location, hold a driving licence (van will be supplied).
Duties to include but not limited to;
- Assist experienced Mobile Engineers with vehicle servicing, maintenance and repairs
- Support the diagnosis and rectification of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults
- Assist with vehicle inspections and defect repairs
- Learn to use diagnostic equipment and specialist workshop tools
- Complete job cards and maintenance records accurately
- Follow all company health and safety procedures and safe systems of work
- Maintain tools, equipment and mobile service vehicles to a high standard
- Develop the skills and knowledge required to become a fully qualified Mobile HGV Engineer
- Attend college/training as required and successfully complete all elements of the apprenticeship programme
Your training
The apprenticeship programme usually consists of the following elements:
Knowledge element:
- This is the technical certificate and covers the theory side of your work which is delivered when you attend college, so that you can put these newly acquired skills into practice at work
Competence element:
- This is the practical side of the programme and is assessed directly within the workplace by a Harlow College Assessor to ensure that you are developing your skills within the workplace and putting all that you learn at college into practice
Functional skills:
- This area covers English, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) if not already at Grade 4 GCSE standard
Transferable skills:
- These are the skills that help you develop your Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) and your rights as an employee within the workplace (ERR)
- The duration of the course is 36 months
- You will attend college for 1 day a week, and you will be in the workplace for the remaining 4 days
How and when will I study?
- IMI NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
- Level 2 Functional Skills - English (if required) and Level 2 IT (if required)
- ERR (Employment Rights and Responsibilities)
- PLTS (Personal Learning and Thinking Skills)

- Fiveways are always seeking to develop our staff and there will be regular training provided both internal and external
- Further, we would foresee that on successful completion of the apprenticeship, a permanent position would be offered

Things to consider
This is a mobile position and the starting location will be FCC Environment, Priory Works, Sandpit Road, Dartford, DA1 5BU.
Driving licence – essential.
The individual will be provided with a van and fuel card in order to fulfil the mobile aspect of this role.
Some customers will be based in London so the successful candidate will need to be confident in driving in London and also motorways.
Early morning start – 5.00am.
Ordinarily you will not be expected to work beyond 2pm however there may be instances outside of our control such as road traffic accidents you may finish later.
Working outside in warm, cold, wet weather conditions.
