You will learn how to use various different metrology equipment and inspection techniques along the way. This is a hands-on role that allows the apprentice technician to see all different aspects of machining and at the end of the apprenticeship, will be a fully trained quality Inspector. 

Responsibilities are : 

  • First off & last off checks
  • Patrol inspections
  • Inspecting batches of components
  • Occasionally documenting reports (something to grow into)
  • Programming CMM & Keyence (something to grow into)
  • Liaising with machinists to ensure Part compliance
  • Visual inspection of deburring
  • Ensuring SOPs for products are completed 

Your training

Metrology Technician - Apprenticeship Standard.

Year 1, 2 & 3 - 1 day a week at Appris Training Centre, Bradford: EAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Machining.

Year 1 to Year 4 - Workplace qualification: EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering - Technical Support Technician (Quality & Inspection).
