- To assist in the accountancy function in the production of statutory financial functions and financial information, advice and guidance to managers and staff within Derby Homes
- To assist in the processing of financial transactions, including payments and income, ensuring that documents are correctly completed and that coding is accurate.
- To assist other Accountants in the team in preparing and monitoring budgets for budget holders
- To make supervised general ledger transactional adjustments in order to update accounting entries and budgets
- To prepare reconciliations and to ensure that the financial ledger is maintained to produce final year end accounts
- To provide general financial advice and guidance to staff in relation to financial transactions and controls
- Assist in data gathering and analysis to allow the timely completion of benchmarking, grant claim forms and other financial returns
- Assist in delivering financial training including preparation of material
- Apply basic IT skills including the maintenance of computerised records
- Undertake general office duties as required
- Ensure all work complies with standing orders, financial regulations and departmental instructions
- Adhere to health and safety regulations, using and safely operating a range of tools associated with your job roles
- Participate in Derby Homes Performance Reviews
- Comply with all Health and Safety Policies and Procedures
- To adhere to the data protection Act in respect of confidentiality and disclosure of data
- Demonstrate an understanding and commitment to the Equalities Policies of Derby Homes
- Comply with all existing and any new Personnel Policies and Practices implemented by Derby Homes
- Work with new technology including any computerised systems operated by Derby Homes
Your training
The Level 3 Assistant Accountant apprenticeship standard includes 6 AAT exams, in addition to the Synoptic Assessment as part of the End-Point Assessment (EPA) process.
The knowledge units will be delivered at the EMA training hub in Derby, or online (depending on apprentices’ location) through day release.
AAT Modules are as follows:
- Introduction to Bookkeeping (Level 2 Unit)
- Principles of Bookkeeping (Level 2 Unit)
- Management Accounting Techniques
- Financial Accounting: Preparing Financial Statements
- Business Awareness
- Tax Processes for Business
Where it leads
There is no guarantee of a permanent position at the end of the Apprenticeship however opportunities and vacancies will arise which Apprentices can apply for.
About Derby Homes Limited
Derby Homes is an Arm’s Length Management Organisation (ALMO) and is a 100% owned subsidiary of Derby City Council. It was created in 2002 to manage and maintain the Council's housing stock. The function of management and maintenance is delegated to Derby Homes, but the Council retains ownership of the housing stock and all tenants are Council tenants.
