Working within a busy workshop environment, you will learn a wide range of machining techniques while being supported by experienced machinists, toolmakers, and engineers. This role is ideal for individuals who are mechanically minded, eager to learn, and committed to developing their skills in CNC machining, milling operations, and CAM programming.
The successful candidate will be involved in a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
- Supporting and maintaining health and safety procedures to the highest standard at all times.
- Ensuring excellent housekeeping standards are maintained and taking responsibility for keeping your work area clean, safe, and organised.
- Demonstrating flexibility within the role to help meet both internal and external business requirements.
- Assisting with the setting and operation of CNC machinery, including milling, turning, and EDM equipment, under the guidance of experienced engineers.
- Developing knowledge and understanding of CNC programming using Heidenhain control systems.
- Learning to use NC CAM software to support manufacturing processes.
- Inspecting and measuring machined components to ensure quality standards and engineering specifications are achieved.
- Working closely with experienced machinists, toolmakers, and engineers to build technical knowledge and practical workshop skills.
- Supporting continuous improvement activities within the manufacturing environment.
- Following all company procedures and contributing positively to the engineering team.
Your training
You will be required to attend Advance 1, Dudley College, DY1 4AD, 1 day per week in term time only.
You will receive a Machining Level 3 qualification upon successful completion of your apprenticeship.
You will be assigned an assessor who will visit the workplace every 6-8 weeks to support you on your apprenticeship.
You may be required to complete functional skills alongside this apprenticeship.
