You will be working for a medium size employee owned Cornish Food Retailer. In store we have a kitchen that produces food from scratch for the in-store café and deli counter.

The job role will include the following key responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing and cooking food in our café kitchen to the highest standards, using Cornish produce, to be sold in our café and from the counters in our store.
  • Learn traditional and modern cooking techniques under expert guidance, following a daily prep list and assisting the team on service with cooking to order.
  • Following training and under guidance, you will learn how to operate and use the kitchen equipment and develop your knife skills.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and hygienic working environment in line with food safety standards.
  • Support the team with stock rotation, reducing wastage and daily operational tasks.

Your training

You will be working towards a Level 2 Commis Chef Apprenticeship standard.

You will also receive Food Safety and Allergen training.

You will receive on and off-the-job training and support from an Apprenticeship Advisor.

You will be required to attend Cornwall College St Austell or Cornwall College Camborne on a weekly basis as part of the apprenticeship training.

Where it leads

Following the successful completion of the apprenticeship programme, there may be a future opportunity to join our kitchen team in a permanent role.
