You will be part of the Financial Systems Reporting team which is responsible for operational support, maintenance and development of Axiom EPM, the system based financial reporting tool. You and the team are also responsible for supporting the Finance Data Owner and Data Stewards in ensuring financial data reported in Axiom, Tableau and Power BI is accurate through setting up and reviewing the data structures underpinning reporting.
As part of the team you will have responsibility for the maintenance and development of financial reporting to ensure it provides accurate and timely financial information to users. In addition you will need to support the financial planning processes through the provision of system tools including the provision of financial, staff and student data as appropriate. You will also be required to work with the business to develop and improve the existing financial reporting suite including support the review of data used by other reporting where it relates to financial information and the use of data from other systems where it supplements financial reporting e.g. SITS, Oracle EBS. This will include testing of changes to other systems to ensure the interfaces and data feeds continue to support Axiom EPM reporting and is updated to include new data where appropriate.
You will have good interpersonal skills and should be organised, flexible and supportive with an ability to manage their time efficiently. Strong Excel skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software is essential. The role requires strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
Duties and responsibilities
- Maintains the suite of web and client based financial reporting, planning tools and data from Axiom EPM, including preparing guidance documentation as appropriate
- Develop new tools and reporting per business requirements, including working with the business to develop and understand the specification and to prepare guidance documentation as appropriate
- Maintains and develops the finance data warehouse, including data loads, integrations and data flows to support financial reporting and planning tools through both Axiom and other reporting systems such as Tableau and PowerBI
- Supports on the maintenance and development of other systems such as SITS (Portico), Oracle EBS and others as required in particular to ensure reporting through Axiom is maintained and enhanced
- Drives and delivers continuous improvement in financial reporting, processes and controls as relevant
- Develops good working relationships with colleagues across finance to share best practice and to develop new reporting, planning tools, systems and processes
- Contributes to training events, including leading on the provision of training where relevant to share specific skills and experience with finance colleagues from across the business
- Contributes to team initiatives, adopting a collaborative approach to problem solving
- Occasional out-of-hours support may be required during planned system changes to minimise disruption to the business, this may include evening or weekend working, but will be notified and agreed in advance with the line manager and compensated according to the relevant HR Policy

During this apprenticeship, you will follow a fully supported training programme with LearnTech, delivered through combined weekly remote classroom-based training, workplace assessment/training and online learning working towards completing the Level 3 Data Technician standard.

Things to consider
