At Target NEL CIC, our EOTAS (Education Other Than At School) model provides a unique, child-centred approach for learners with special educational needs who may not currently thrive in a traditional school setting, or who need additional time and support to re-engage with learning. Through project-based education, we embed literacy and numeracy while providing practical, creative and hands-on experiences that build confidence, independence and real-world skills.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with project-based educational support, adapting activities to meet individual learners' needs.
  • Provide general classroom support, including setting up equipment, resources and displays.
  • Undertake general classroom administration and organisational tasks.
  • Support safeguarding procedures and maintain high standards of Health and Safety.
  • Promote discipline, positive behaviour and respectful relationships.
  • Supervise students safely both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Support the teaching and development of numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Assist with creative activities, including filmmaking, pottery and crafts.
  • Support practical learning in construction, horticulture and wildlife.
  • Assist with hospitality and cookery skills and activities.
  • Complete required training, including trauma-informed practice, safeguarding, County Lines, Health and Safety and other essential topics.
  • All other associated duties as required.

Your training

All delivery for this apprenticeship will take place within your place of work. A dedicated Vocational Trainer will visit on average once every 3-4 weeks, to establish a personal learning and development plan, outlining a schedule of training activities and business objectives.

You will complete a mixture of on and off the job training, including workshops, face to face training and working towards creating a portfolio of relevant practical evidence. You’ll also be supported by your colleagues at all times and will have a full induction. 

You will have a review every 8-12 weeks with your Line Manager and Trainer to discuss your progress.

Delivered in a calm and supportive environment, our approach builds confidence, wellbeing, social skills and independence through real-world experiences, with the aim of helping learners make meaningful progress and, where appropriate, successfully transition back into mainstream education.
