This 700 acre estate just outside Marlborough offers everything an up and coming horticulturalist would want, the walled garden comprises of formal herbaceous borders, a kitchen garden, a potager and reflection garden. We have an orangery for tropical plants and a greenhouse for all the growing and propagating that we do on-site.

The garden will be going under construction this year to give the greenhouses a well-deserved redesign. It is an exciting time to join our team on the estate as we bring the garden into the 21st century whilst cherishing the history of this beautiful and unique estate.

Main duties are as follows:

  • Tending to and harvesting the fruit and vegetables
  • Propagating and seed sowing
  • Maintaining the herbaceous borders
  • Hedge cutting
  • Mowing
  • General grounds maintenance that the grounds require throughout the seasons

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate a can do attitude, a willingness to learn and the ability to work well with in a team. The role is physically demanding and requires good physical ability and health.

Please note, the successful candidate will need to provide references and will be asked to complete a DBS check, which the company will organise and pay for. The candidate will also be required to provide evidence of qualifications.

Your training

Day release to Sparsholt College during term-time.

Where it leads

  • As the garden grows, we want to channel each gardener towards what they are most passionate about, whether that be propagation, soil science, kitchen gardener or greenhouse specialist
  • A desire to take ownership and responsibility in what you are passionate about

Things to consider

Location – The estate is located on the outskirts of Marlborough, there are bus stops however they are a long walk or short drive away from the manor and grounds. Working outdoors – We work through all seasons in all the weather. Physically demanding work – There are duties that include safely using ladders and garden machinery. Due to the location of the Manor and travelling weekly to Sparsholt College, own transport and a driving would be an advantage
