Key Responsibilities

As a Healthcare Support Worker Apprentice, your duties will include:

  • Providing person-centred personal care, including dressing, undressing, washing, bathing, shaving, oral care and toileting.
  • Supporting individuals with mobility difficulties, continence needs and the use of appropriate aids, adaptations and equipment.
  • Supporting clients who are temporarily unwell with appropriate non-nursing care and practical support.
  • Providing compassionate support to individuals who may have a terminal illness.
  • Promoting the physical and emotional wellbeing of clients through positive interaction and meaningful activities.
  • Supporting individuals to access their local community and participate in hobbies, recreation and other activities.
  • Encouraging and promoting independence, confidence and social skills.
  • Assisting with housekeeping and the preparation of food and drinks where required.
  • Communicating effectively with clients using their preferred method of communication.
  • Recognising and respecting each individual's needs, preferences, choices, dignity and human rights.
  • Monitoring clients' wellbeing and reporting any significant changes in health or circumstances to senior members of the care team.
  • Maintaining accurate and detailed records and reports.
  • Working effectively with colleagues and contributing positively as part of the wider care team.
  • Participating in meetings, training and development activities.
  • Administering medication where required, following appropriate training and competency sign-off.
  • Following LJM Homecare's policies, procedures, professional standards and philosophy of care.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and ensuring client information is handled appropriately.
  • Following health and safety, safeguarding, data protection and other relevant requirements.
  • Undertaking any other reasonable duties associated with the role.

On successful completion of the apprenticeship, there may be opportunities to progress within LJM Homecare or the wider health and social care sector.

Depending on your experience, qualifications and career ambitions, potential progression could include Senior Care Worker, specialist healthcare support roles or further study and development within the health and social care sector.
