Supporting the Health & Safety function across Reed Boardall's transport and operational activities, whilst undertaking a recognised Health & Safety apprenticeship programme leading to a professional qualification, an apprentice will gain practical experience in accident prevention, incident investigation, compliance monitoring and continuous improvement within a fast-paced transport and warehousing environment.

The apprentice will work closely with the Health & Safety Manager and operational managers, supporting activities including:

Incident Management & Investigation - 

  • Supporting the investigation of vehicle accidents and road traffic incidents
  • Assisting with driver safety investigations and transport-related incidents
  • Recording and monitoring personal accidents, injuries and workplace incidents
  • Supporting the reporting and investigation of near misses
  • Assisting with accident, incident and root cause investigations
  • Supporting RIDDOR reporting requirements and maintaining associated records
  • Tracking corrective and preventative actions to completion

Compliance & Risk Management - 

  • Assisting with the completion and review of risk assessments
  • Supporting compliance monitoring against internal health & safety procedures
  • Maintaining health & safety documentation, records and reporting systems
  • Monitoring trends, recurring incidents and areas of risk
  • Producing safety performance data and reports to support decision-making

Workplace & Transport Safety - 

  • Supporting safety initiatives relating to vehicles, drivers and transport activities
  • Assisting with vehicle and pedestrian safety assessments across site operations
  • Participating in workplace inspections, audits and safety observations
  • Supporting depot safety activities and operational risk reduction programmes
  • Helping to identify opportunities to improve safety performance and compliance

Training & Safety Culture - 

  • Supporting the delivery of toolbox talks and safety briefings
  • Assisting with safety communications and awareness campaign
  • Promoting a positive safety culture across transport, warehousing and operational teams
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives designed to enhance health, safety and wellbeing throughout the business

Your training

The structure of the actual apprenticeship will be based on the relevant standards, and will be tailored to take account of the individual employer and apprentice's needs and wants. As a minimum, this will include:

Briefing and engagement sessions delivered by Bragd and the employer to explain the apprenticeship in more detail
An initial assessment of your level of relevant knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) to allow a tailored, individualised programme to be developed
An initial assessment of your level of functional skills including English and mathematics
An individual learning plan (ILP) that describes the activities that will be completed as part of your learning journey
A structured programme of off the job training, learning and development activities that meet the ‘OTJ’ requirement, delivered by a team of experienced trainers and tutors
Ongoing 1-2-1 support from your employer and a dedicated tutor / mentor from Bragd
Regular assessment and signposting to help you keep you on track with developing the range of required knowledge, skills and behaviours
Quarterly progress reviews to recognise achievement, confirm additional support needs and identify next steps
Support and guidance to help you complete your end point assessment, where you will demonstrate the wide range of KSBs you have developed during your apprenticeship programme.

The site operates a specialist transport environment that includes the use of equipment, machinery and processes that require employees to meet specific health, safety and operational requirements.
