Newbarn Ltd are looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join their team as an Adult Care Worker Apprentice / Support Worker.
You will work alongside experienced Support Workers to provide person-centred support to tenants, helping them to live as independently as possible and achieve positive outcomes.
The role involves supporting adults with a range of needs, including mental health problems, learning disabilities, Autistic Spectrum Conditions and substance misuse issues.
Your main duties will include:
- Providing 1:1 and group support to tenants
- Building positive, trusting and professional relationships with tenants
- Supporting tenants to achieve their personal, social, leisure, learning and employment goals
- Encouraging and supporting independence in everyday life
- Supporting tenants with shopping and budgeting
- Helping tenants with meal preparation, cooking and healthy eating
- Supporting tenants to maintain a safe, clean and secure home
- Supporting tenants to attend GP, dental, optical and other health appointments
- Encouraging tenants to take part in social activities and community activities
- Supporting tenants with personal care where required
- Supporting health and wellbeing
- Assisting with medication procedures following appropriate training
- Supporting individual Support Plans, Risk Assessments and Health Action Plans
- Helping tenants with tenancy-related responsibilities
- Supporting health and safety checks within properties
- Completing accurate records and support notes following support sessions
- Completing incident reports and other relevant documentation
- Liaising with families, carers, care managers and other professionals
- Attending staff meetings, supervision and multi-agency meetings where required
- Following safeguarding, confidentiality, health and safety and other organisational policies
- Completing mandatory and apprenticeship training
- Developing your own knowledge, skills and professional practice throughout the apprenticeship
- You will be encouraged to learn from experienced colleagues and gradually take on greater responsibility as your confidence and competence develops
Your training
The successful candidate will complete a Level 3 Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship through Rochdale Training Association.
You will receive a combination of workplace learning and structured off-the-job training, developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to work effectively within adult social care.
Training will include areas such as:

- Health and wellbeing
- Supporting independence
- Mental health
- Learning disabilities
- Professional boundaries
- Duty of care
- Health and safety
- Medication awareness
- Supporting individuals with complex needs

- Partnership working
- You will receive regular support from your apprenticeship tutor and workplace colleagues throughout the programme
Where it leads
Successful completion of the apprenticeship could lead to a permanent Support Worker position with Newbarn, subject to performance and business requirements.
The qualification and experience gained could also provide opportunities to progress within adult social care into more senior or specialist support roles.
