You will work alongside experienced maintenance operatives, contractors, clients and the office team, helping to keep residential and commercial properties safe, functional and in a good state of repair.

As this is an apprenticeship position, previous maintenance experience is not essential. Full training, supervision and support will be provided.

  • Attend residential and commercial properties to assist with planned and reactive maintenance works
  • Assist with identifying faults, defects and maintenance requirements
  • Carry out basic repairs under appropriate supervision
  • Assist with basic carpentry and joinery, plumbing, painting and decorating, plastering and making-good, tiling and general property repairs
  • Assist with repairing and maintaining doors, locks, handles, hinges, fixtures and fittings
  • Assist with minor external works, drainage, fencing and grounds maintenance where appropriate
  • Prepare work areas and protect residents’ and clients’ property before work begins
  • Use hand and power tools safely following training and instruction
  • Select and use appropriate materials, components, fixtures and fittings
  • Keep tools, equipment, vehicles and work areas clean, organised and secure
  • Follow Storm Maintenance health and safety procedures and use appropriate PPE
  • Identify hazards, defects and additional works and report them promptly
  • Recognise when work is outside your level of competence and seek guidance from a supervisor or manager
  • Communicate professionally with residents, tenants, landlords, clients, colleagues and contractors
  • Take before, during and after photographs of works where required
  • Record accurate job updates and completion information using company systems
  • Leave completed work areas clean, safe and tidy and dispose of waste appropriately
  • Support urgent and emergency maintenance works where appropriate
  • Complete apprenticeship training, coursework, portfolio evidence and assessments alongside day-to-day duties

Your training

The apprentice will attend their approved training provider as part of the apprenticeship programme.

  • Apprenticeship training will be completed in line with the provider’s agreed timetable
  • The remaining working time will be spent with Storm Maintenance, gaining practical experience across maintenance jobs and developing trade skills in the workplace
  • Training will support the apprentice in building the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to successfully complete the Level 2 Property Maintenance Operative Apprenticeship

Where it leads

This apprenticeship provides a strong introduction to the property maintenance and construction sector.

Following successful completion, there may be opportunities to progress into roles such as Property Maintenance Operative, Maintenance Technician, Multi-Skilled Maintenance Operative, Property Technician or Senior Maintenance Operative, depending on performance and business requirements.

Further specialist training may also be available in trades such as plumbing, carpentry, decorating or other building maintenance disciplines.

Things to consider

The role involves travel to different properties and work locations. The apprentice must be willing to follow all health and safety requirements, wear appropriate PPE and work within the limits of their training and competence. A driving licence is desirable but not essential unless required by the training or operational arrangements.
