Main Roles and Responsibilities:
- Keep all clinical areas and equipment clean, tidy and sterile as appropriate according to the practice health and safety and infection control procedures and manufacturer’s instructions
- Use all equipment and machinery in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations and ensure that they are maintained regularly and in good working order
- Provide chairside assistance, ensuring the correct equipment is available
- Ensure the care and welfare of Patients at all times
- Accurately complete patient clinical records as directed
- Handle all substances in accordance with health and safety policies
- Be familiar and comply with all health and safety rules and guidance, including PPE, COSHH, mercury handling, infection control, waste disposal etc.
- Develop and file radiographs
- Complete laboratory request forms, keep records of work sent, received and fitted
- Ensure Adequate stocks of materials and other items are in the surgery
- Place order requests for surgery clinical supplies with the Practice Coordinator
- Ensure that computer/written records are accurately maintained, and securely stored
- Liaise with reception to ensure smooth patient communications and transfer of records
- Attend and participate in practice meetings
- Other duties as necessary for the efficient operation of the practice, this will include reception duties and decontamination room cover
- Undergo regular training to develop skills and ability, to include CPR and medical emergencies
- Act in accordance with the Practice rules and code of conduct
Your training
- The learner will be studying the Level 3 Dental Nurse Apprenticeship Standard qualification
- Day release to West Suffolk College
Where it leads
To work within the surgery environment for a dentist, or hygienist and in future the qualification can progress to becoming a hygienist.
